This is very true. The last 15 years of education have gone from being about how much we are already spending in the classroom to being about how much we can be spending and how much money we have to spend. We have all been spending so much money on computers and other gadgets that we haven’t really noticed how much we’re really not spending. The point is that we have to stop spending so much money and actually start thinking about what we spend and how we spend it.
I think the biggest problem is that we’ve all been buying into the idea that we can do everything with technology and it’s how we’re always going to do it. It’s not true. I mean, we can all program computers with any language that we want to using open source software. But if we continue to do so, we will never be more efficient, more productive, more creative, more productive than any of the other corporations in history.
The key to this problem is that most of us are just not aware of how many of the most incredible tools in the world already exist. We tend to think of computers like they are some magical thing that can solve everything. But the truth is that they are not. They are the most complicated and expensive piece of equipment there is. And the more complex a piece of equipment is, the more money you’ll spend to build it.
The only thing that really works is the computer. If you look at the computers we have in our hands, they are all pretty sophisticated, and the most sophisticated ones are pretty expensive, but that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t have a computer.
