The fact is that the majority of our thoughts and actions are on autopilot. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing either. Our habits, routines, impulses, and reactions carry us through our lives so we don’t have to stop and think about it every time we wipe our ass or start a car.
There’s something about the word “autopilot,” in fact, and I think that the best way to describe it is as if you could put the word’s definition into the mouth of a machine. For example, if you put your hand on a machine that turns itself on and you feel it turn, you aren’t thinking or doing anything about how it’s going to turn.
Panic disorder (PD) is a very common disorder, affecting over 5% of the population. People with PD can experience feelings of fear, panic, or anxiety with other symptoms such as sweating, palpitations, shortness of breath, nausea, and visual, auditory or tactile hallucinations. It occurs more often in women and is more often associated with genetic factors. A recent study revealed that people with the highest incidence of panic disorder are also the ones who have the most family histories of PD.
According to the American Psychiatric Association, a person can have PD even if he or she is not experiencing symptoms. A person with PD doesn’t typically realize that they have the disorder. They may be aware of having anxiety, but not a real panic attack. A person with PD may have little or no awareness of what is going on with them, as they may not be able to form a conscious thought.
I feel that this may be true for many people with panic disorder. I have friends who are also diagnosed, and they all claim they have no idea what they are experiencing. I think this could be one of the reasons in some people with PD that they experience a lot of “panic attacks” which can be quite frightening.
Being diagnosed with PD for myself, I had some panic attacks that I couldn’t shake. I would get in a car and start driving and think that I would never be able to turn back and stop myself from losing control of my car. It was terrifying.
I’m not sure what panic disorder is, but if you’re having a really bad day, it probably isn’t causing you to panic. If you’re having a really good day, maybe the bad days are causing you to make a little more bad decisions.
Panic disorder is real. They can be as simple as having a panic attack in the middle of the day, or as severe as having the urge to run away from your house. One of the more common forms of panic disorder is agoraphobia, which is an inability to leave your home (or a close place) quickly. Agoraphobics often have a fear of strangers and have problems with social situations.
It’s a disorder that is characterized by a fear or phobia of being or being alone. Agoraphobics also have a fear of the outdoors and can be afraid of going outside in the woods.
