We all know that in order to be effective, you have to be accountable. Whether you’re working with an employee for the first time or trying to motivate your child to stay in school, accountability is a must. Tehama county public school (TCPS) is a great example of this.

When the state of Tennessee sent out an email to all of their 875,000 teachers to inform them of their new job posting stating that they would be required to become school administrators in order to teach at the high school level, it was a great idea. However, the email went out to teachers in a number of different counties and the response was a bit mixed.

While it’s true many teachers would prefer to work with the kids directly, the state has also stated that it understands teachers’ desire for more autonomy and will give them that. However, it’s not the same as giving a school full-time administrators, just in the guise of it. It’s more akin to the “administrator” in an assembly-line factory having a role that is more like that of a supervisor.

The big question is whether a school will be any different from a company. Teachers have the right to work with their kids, but at the same time, if they feel they can’t do that, they must be given the chance to do so. The state has clearly stated it’s open to allowing teachers to have more autonomy, but there has to be a balance between having a school fully staffed and having teachers being able to do more.

I think this is an issue that has been debated many times in the past. It would be hard to argue the merits of a state that allows schools to hire teachers for every single position, but if teachers are allowed to be hired and fired, they would have to be able to make a decision about whether or not they were willing to work for a school.

This is a big problem, not least because the job description you use to describe the job can be a bit vague. The jobs definition is: “to be a teacher, teacher is a public-school teacher.” The job description you use is a lot like “to be a security guard.” You need to know what sort of public-school teacher you want to have.

The other problem is that our ability to get our kids with our own minds and behaviors has not been as impressive as we’d like. So we’ll get a little bit of help instead of a little bit of help from our peers and our parents. So this week the team at the county department of education team was on the fence around this.
